Concrete planters DIY
My new book got published this week!! You can now purchase Making Concrete pots, bowls and platters in any good bookstore and online. The book is full of project for your home and garden all made from concrete, the cheapest and most widely available DIY product in the world.
To celebrate the release of my latest title I will show you how to make my favourite project in the book, these succulent planters cast in recycled containers. Have a look at my video you will also get a peek in to the book.
Aren't they just lovely? Love how the rubble on the base give every planter a different imperfect edge. This industrial look goes great with the succulents or cacti you can plant in them. Any container in your recycling bin will make a mould as long as it is smooth on the inside. To many ridges will make it almost impossible to demould your planter. Yoghurt pots, pudding containers, soup tubs and even potato crisp cartons are great to use as moulds. Why don't you make lots of planters and start a whole succulent forrest!
If you are new to working with concrete this would be a great project, it's simple and you only need to mix a small amount of concrete. The book has a lot of information for the concrete novice, I talk about all the different kinds of moulds there are, how you mix concrete, the science behind it setting and how you can add colour and texture. You can buy Making concrete pots, bowls and platters in any good bookstore and online. If they don't have it on the shelves ask the store owner to order it! The book s published by Cico books.
