Dolls house makeover, I turned an Aldi dolls house into a mini version of my home

(ad/pr the dolls house was a gift)

When I spotted this contemporary, modular dolls house at the Aldi I knew it was the perfect blank canvas for a little makeover. I house to turn into a mini version of my own home. We all know that children like things that are familiar so how fun would a dolls house be that looks like their own home?

That was so much fun to make! My favourite bits must be the little Kermit, the tiny piece of Margot in Margate art and Kiki’s bed. I used all the same paints on the walls as I have in my home, I just primed the dolls house first as the laminated material can be tricky to paint. I used Rustoleums Surface Primer, a super easy to use spray paint. The lounge floor i drew on with Sharpies to mimic my amazing palm print carpet.

For the furniture I mainly used balsa wood as its easily cut with a craft knife, I also used leftover bits of plywood for Kiki’s bed and matchsticks and popsicle sticks for the chairs.

Mattresses can me easily made out of sponges, as did the sofa cushions. And a bit of wadding made up the duvet. What really made it my home though was drawings of the art work, some accessories and a few plants. Just by adding the piece above the sofa in immediately transformed the room into my lounge, same goes for the items in the olive green bedroom.

What do you think? Fancy turning a dolls house into a mini version of your own home?
