Make a Peg Rail
I love using peg rails in my interior, they are very decorative and provide storage, what is not to like!
The long peg rail in my bathroom is full of hanging planters and baskets with plants transforming an otherwise boring tiles wall into a little jungle. When I was making another peg rail to use in my hallway, its going to hold our coats, I realised i never showed you guys how easy it is to make your own peg rail. Ok they are not expensive to buy but isn’t it more fun to be able to make your own? Added benefit is that you can make it just the right lenght, a costume build piece of useful decor.
I used a minimal amount of tools making the peg rail to show you don’t need a full DIY kit to make your own pieces. A handsaw and a drill with a drill bit the same size of the dowels you are all the tools you need. I used smooth planed timber of 7 cm wide , I wouldn’t go much smaller or bigger, the proportions look great at this width. The dowel length is also 7cm and by coincidence I have 7 dowels on my peg rail, its the number 7 all over :)
You can leave your peg rail as is or you can paint or stain yours to fit in with your interior. I used a dark oak stain on mine, love how it ages the piece and how it picks up the grain in the wood. The peg rail I made for the bathroom has a lighter stain to match the wood on the bathroom ceiling.
I would love to see the peg rails you make! Would you cover the whole lenght of a wall with it or make a smaller one to hold your kitchen towels? Or maybe a lenght of peg rails to hold storage baskets for toys, the possibilities are endless!
