Ikea hack, Rustic look for a Malm bedframe
It's time for an update on my bedroom makeover! As you will see in the video and in the photo's below I've finished the room :D Woohoo!
Over the next couple of months I will post tutorials for all the builds and makes that you see in the room and this week I'll start with the bed frame. I don't know if you remember but for my previous home I turned my Ikea Malm bed frame into a four poster. I loved that bed and how the hack turned out, it even got featured in my book Furniture Hacks.
Unfortunately the four poster didn't fit into my new bedroom, the post were too high for my attic room, such a shame! So I took the posts off (turned them into an outdoor table) and the bed resembled it's old frame again. But now my new bedroom got its long overdue makeover the bed needed a new look too, its second hack or its double hack so to say.
It's a very easy one. You don't need a saw, you don't need a drill, you don't need to go to the timber merchant but the bed has a complete new style. Have a look at how I've done that in the video below.
What do you think? Do you like the beds new look? And it's super easy to achieve, I spend only half a day cladding the bed in its timber jacket. I used Colours self adhesive grey wood effect vinyl planks from B&Q but you could use the real wood sticky back timbers from Stikwood as well. You simple peel the backing away, stick the plank on your bed frame and secure the corners by hammering in a small nail. You will need to cut the planks to size but with the vinyl planks that I used that's super easy as well. Simply score the cutline and bend the plank to make it snap.
