Ikea hack: Knagglig box to book storage

Ikea hack: Knagglig box to book storage

You probably know I love an Ikea hack and especially an Ikea Knagglig storage box hack! I’ve turned them into bookcases, a dog bed and (dog) toy storage systems before but today I’m turning a Knagglig box into a book storage box for little Kiki.

Kiki loves playing with her books and she’s starting to pick books out and bring them over for us to read to her so it was about time she got her own little easy accessible bookcase.

How simple is that! Just four furniture legs and a small stripe of colour and Kiki has a lovely little bookcase. I would normally never use pink in crafts for Kiki but I loved this Candy pink spray paint from Rust-Oleum and think it goes nice with the pale wood of the box. I went to the hardware store with a mint colour in mind for the legs but the pink caught my eye instead.

The little stripe is from the chalky furniture paint range of Rust-Oleum an it is the colour Coral.

Now if only Kiki learns how to tidy her books away after reading/eating them :D

Do you have any favourite kids books? I currently only trust her with cardboard books as thinner pages just get torn up (I have a whole shelf with lovely normal books for in a few months time) Firm favourites are books with music or little flaps you can move. I love the A little paper caper book by Oliver Jeffers you see in the box. it’s about a bear who steal tree branches to make paper for his paper plane flying. Another fav is the Quantum Physics for babies book by Chris Ferrie, better start them young hey.

Kiki also loves the alphabet cards from Wee gallery you see in the box too, she currently just takes them out of the box but soon she can learn the animals and letters and the illustrations are real cute.

There are a lot of Dutch books in the box as well as Kiki is being raised bilingual, there are some lovely Dutch classics out there like the red tom cat Dikkie Dik, the frog Kikker, the stories of the little goose Gonnie and my all time fav Jip en Janneke. When Kiki is a bit bigger and she has a bit more patience to listen to a story I can’t wait to read the Astrid Lindgren books to her. Pippi Longstockings, the Bollerbyn village books and Ronia the robber’s daughter.

What were your favourite books from your childhood?

I’ll be back next week with another build, see you then! xx
