I met up with the wonderful Margo McDaid from Margo in Margate to have a nosy around her workshop/pop up shop and to find out how she started painting. I absolutely adore Margo’s paintings, plates and block people and after asking her a few times she finally agreed to let me film her and as an added bonus also gave the Hester’s Handmade Home readers a mini workshop in how create her stacked people!! :D

Have a look at the video below and see Margo paint, talk about why she started painting and how her famous ladies came to be. You can also see me attempt to make a little stacked figurine.

Isn’t she just marvellous?

I love the story that the ladies came to life to accompany the sailors she used to paint, as of course sailers need a girl in every port :)

Margo never does video interviews or tutorials so I am super honoured she took the time to let me have a look around her pop up shop and let me film the tutorial.

I love these little stacked people, for one they are up-cycled but also cause it is art you can play with. You can keep restacking your blocks to create new figurines. And they are surprisingly easy to make, I just need some practise painting eyes :)

These blocks are for display use, they look a bit like kids playing blocks but they are meant to be an art piece. If you do want to use them as stacking blocks for your child make sure you use a non toxic wood, sand the wood super soft and use a toy safe paint.
