Acrylic rope shelves

When the people at the Plastic Sheets Shop asked me to come up with a project using their materials I was very intrigued. I never worked with acrylic or plexiglass before but as I’m always up for a challenge I started researching the material and a long list of possible projects started appearing in my notebook. Acrylic is so incredibly versatile!
In the end I thought this rope shelf idea might be a lovely project for the blog as it’s very easy to make you don’t need many tools, just a drill, and I LOVE the look of them. I choose a frosted acrylic to work with as I wanted the shelves to be light but not completely see through. There is so much acrylic to choose from, the shop has coloured sheets, matt ones, neon acrylics (I was very tempted by these) or clear ones. And then there are different thicknesses, I used a 6mm thick sheet.
Once you chosen your acrylic the Plastic Sheets shop will cut your sheet to size, saving you so much work! Your materials will arrive at your door ready to be used. Have a look at how I turned 3 sheets of 45x15cm frosted clear 6mm thick acrylic into a hanging shelf unit.
To add a bit of quirk I used pink paracord instead of rope and hung the shelves from climbing style D-rings.If you like a bit more of a neutral look you can of course use white cotton rope and wooden rings instead but I’m loving this modern looking rope shelf. The great thing about using acrylic is that the shelving unit looks so light and airy, the perfect spot to display my favourite plants and trinkets. What would you use your shelves for?
